Move with easy
This practice is adapted from iRest® a complete program that creates mindful awareness in the everyday and is adapted for our modern lifestyles. iRest® invites you to meet each moment of your life with unshakable peace, no matter how challenging or difficult your situation.
In this practice the breath is used as the focus for exploration, rather than as a focused breathing technique. In other words you are not aiming to control or change your breath. Breath ‘sensing’ links you into your energy body and invites you to experience the overall flow of sensations, rather than focusing on any specific discomforts.
The Ayurvedic concepts of brahmana and langhana are also explored through the breath. Brahmana means to open and expand on each inhalation, langhana is to reduce, release on each exhalation.
Breathe to prepare to move into and out of each pose.
Yield is about letting go and relaxing, surrendering physically without collapsing, allowing you to be more receptive through your body.
Reach invites a comfortable and safe exploration of your physical boundaries, elongating your muscles, tendons, ligaments.
Push lightly compresses the tissues and shortens the joint spaces, to create pliable joints. Too much push though creates over-effort and exhaustion.
Pull invites torsional contraction without force or strain. Our whole body is assembled and supported through tensegrity – torsonal pull.
Warming up the body is essential before any forms of movement or exercise. It is easy to get ‘stuck’ in habitual movement patterns, which continue to create deeper ‘grooves’ in the brain, maintaining pain sensations/cycles. Allow yourself some time to explore these warm-up positions.
Enjoy these practices in lying to create a deeper sense of awareness through gentle movement patterns. These practices will improve your coordination and posture, as well as easing your nervous system.
